Above isAmy’s “business casual” look for a Friday conference day that is both chilly and rainy (hence the need for the wellies!). The taupe trousers are Gap’s “Perfect trousers” which I strongly recommend. While spending $58 for a pair of pants may seem counter to the graduate student budget, one has to consider the ROI for such a purchase. They are appropriate for the classroom, conferences, and more casual affairs as well. Best of all, they do not require dry cleaning. After doing a closet overall this summer (and giving lots the heave-ho), I bought these pants in three colors: taupe (pictured), black, burberry outlet, and a brown glen plaid. As they are true four-season pants, I will be getting many years of wear out of them. The pink wool coat and thin ecru turtleneck sweater are also Gap. After years of avoiding the Gap (because its trendiness didn’t fit my preppy inclinations), I am now back and a big fan of the new designs that have been brought by fashion world veteran Patrick Robinson. The wellies and coordinating socks are last season’s J Crew, and the bag is from my favorite company, Vineyard Vines, which is opening up its first Boston store tomorrow, November 8!
Jen’s teaching outfit of the week. You can tell by the double-wellies post that Boston has been rainy the past couple days. The rainy weather gold standard (made and worn by the Brits): Hunter boots. I picked a pair with extra flare — three buckles instead of one.
